Sometimes, managers have to deal with the frustrations of strategic initiatives that don’t get done. They fail to understand why this actually happens. If only managers would know how best to inspire strategic vision. One of the biggest causes attributed to the unsuccessful implementation of strategic initiatives is the huge amount of energy utilised in running daily operations. Look at it this way; between serving clients and working towards a strategic vision, what will your team work on? It’s not rocket science – employees will mostly focus on the routine work.

So, what is the best way forward? Here are three ways through which managers can inspire strategic vision to their employees.

  1. Company identity: It is imperative for employees to embrace the company’s identity for them to own up the strategic vision. An identity statement shouldn’t only be seen as something that is told to the prospects and the clients. Rather, it should be considered as a statement that a team is held accountable to every day. Further, an identity statement should be something easy and simple remember. Make sure that it doesn’t exceed 10 words for your employees to remember and also share with others.
  2. Core values – publicize and internalize them. When the workers have an in-depth understanding of the core values and then internalize them, they gain clarity on the best way to succeed within the firm. This, in turn, leads to increased productivity. Take for instance a company whose core values is the delivery of designs in a profitable manner. When this kind of core value is communicated to the employees, the management can then hold them accountable for the delivery of not only great designs but also for doing so in a profitable manner. As much as possible, make the employees aware of the core values.
  3. Focus on a common goal: a lot of firms suffer for having too many strategic initiatives going on simultaneously. In such a scenario, there will always be one overriding goal for a company that trumps the rest. The importance of ensuring that every member of the organisation is working towards a common purpose cannot be overemphasized. In the end, productivity and profitability increase tremendously.

Typically, these are some of the things that the management of the organisation should do to inspire strategic vision. It must be remembered that employees are an important part of the firm. Without their full support, it becomes almost impossible for any company to make any significant strides.
